The Voice of Women and Youth Organization, in partnership with the Civil Society Platform – Darfur, conducted awareness sessions on peacebuilding, peaceful coexistence, and rejecting hate speech, with the participation of community members in Zalingei, Central Darfur State.
The sessions addressed concepts of peacebuilding and peaceful coexistence, the importance of promoting peace within communities, as well as the causes of conflicts and factors that contribute to their escalation.
Speaking to Mashaweer, civil society organization member Saad Al-Haj said, “Promoting a culture of peace and peaceful coexistence requires creating spaces for dialogue among different community groups. This helps people understand the causes of disagreements and address them away from violence and hate speech.”
He added that “such sessions help raise awareness about the importance of accepting others and respecting diversity, while encouraging community members to participate in conflict resolution and strengthen peaceful relations among different groups.”
Participants emphasized the importance of continuing peacebuilding and community awareness activities, particularly given the circumstances in Central Darfur State, and called for greater dialogue and understanding and efforts to reduce hate speech.
