Countries and Organizations Call on Sudan’s Warring Parties to Declare a Ceasefire

Brussels – Mashawir

Countries and international organizations have called on the warring parties in Sudan to resume negotiations and reach a lasting ceasefire, in line with the proposal put forward by the Quad, reaffirming their readiness to support the conclusion and implementation of such an agreement.

The statement stressed that the future of governance in Sudan should be determined by Sudanese people through an inclusive and transparent political process, free from obstruction by armed groups or external interference. It also reaffirmed support for the efforts of the Quintet and the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy to relaunch the political dialogue.

The signatories stressed that a ceasefire must be accompanied by a comprehensive political settlement addressing fundamental issues, including relations between the centre and the regions, the distribution of powers, and constitutional and fiscal arrangements within a federal system.

The statement also condemned external military intervention and support provided to the parties to the conflict, calling for an end to the supply of weapons, military equipment, and financial support, and for stronger UN mechanisms to prevent the flow of arms into the conflict.
