A coordination meeting was held between a delegation from the Humanitarian Action Committee of the “Sumoud” Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces (Uganda) and representatives of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The meeting addressed the humanitarian and living conditions of Sudanese refugees in Uganda amidst the ongoing repercussions of the conflict in Sudan.
During the meeting, both sides discussed a range of challenges facing refugees, most notably the deterioration of livelihoods, poor educational opportunities, and increasing pressure on health and shelter services as refugees continue to flee the conflict.
The meeting touched upon ways to enhance the comprehensive humanitarian response and explored partnership opportunities to support protection programs, economic empowerment for families, and improved access to basic services in host areas.
The “Sumoud” Uganda delegation presented its vision for urgent and medium-term intervention programs. These include supporting small-scale projects for refugees, expanding psychosocial support services, and strengthening transparency and monitoring mechanisms to ensure aid reaches those in need efficiently and fairly.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of combating hate speech and supporting initiatives that promote peaceful coexistence, social cohesion, and respect for diversity to help reduce tensions within refugee and host communities.
For its part, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency confirmed its interest in strengthening cooperation with Sudanese civil society organizations abroad, renewing its commitment to supporting peace and stability efforts and promoting the values of human rights and democracy.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed to continue joint coordination in the coming period to serve the cause of peace and support paths toward stability and sustainable development.
