3 people injured in drone attack in northern Sudan on the first day of Eid

Northern State - Mashaweer

Rapid Support Forces (RSF) drones raided the city of Debba in northern Sudan, targeting a power station and the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Dongola. This caused a power outage in the city and left three people injured.

The raids came hours after the commander of the Sudanese army and head of the Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, reiterated his rejection of any truce, confirming that the fighting would continue until the RSF surrenders.

In a speech on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr on Thursday evening, al-Burhan reaffirmed that there would be no truce or ceasefire with the RSF. He conditioned any such agreement on the withdrawal and assembly of “this militia” (the RSF) according to a comprehensive peace plan that includes a timeline ending in lasting peace, ensuring no armed group remains outside official frameworks.

Mohamed Saber, a local official in Debba who serves as the head of the locality’s security committee, said in press statements broadcast on social media that the RSF targeted the city of Debba on Friday morning, the first day of Eid al-Fitr, with several strategic drones.

Saber explained that the drones targeted several civilian objects in Debba, including the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Dongola, and that the attack resulted in the injury of three people, without disclosing their condition. He added that the RSF, as is their habit, targets civilian objects to instill panic and fear in the hearts of defenseless citizens in Debba on the first day of Eid al-Fitr.

According to the state official, the Sudanese army’s anti-aircraft defenses confronted the drones in the city’s skies. He stated that the armed forces, regular forces, and those supporting them are on high alert to repel any aggression against the Debba locality, and are prepared to move forward to defeat what he called the “rebel militia” and eradicate it from all parts of Sudan, according to his expression.
