Drone Attacks Widen Sudan’s Darkness and Claim Dozens of Lives

Khartoum – Mashawir

Sudan’s drone warfare has entered a dangerous new phase, with escalating reciprocal attacks between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeting military sites, power stations, oil facilities, critical civilian infrastructure, markets, and residential neighbourhoods.

Over a period of approximately 24 hours, drones attributed to the RSF targeted six power stations, the latest being the Al-Markhiyat station in Omdurman. The attacks caused electricity outages across large areas of the capital and other states.

A drone strike on a market in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, killed 21 people and wounded dozens more. The attack came just days after a deadly assault on a market in the disputed Abyei area along the border with South Sudan.

The two latest attacks occurred amid escalating reciprocal airstrikes between the warring parties, which have increasingly become a daily occurrence.

On Tuesday, widespread power outages hit Khartoum State following a drone attack on the Al-Markhiyat transformer station in northwestern Omdurman, forcing it out of service.

Local sources said Khartoum residents had already been experiencing daily electricity cuts lasting between 10 and 12 hours before the latest outage. They added that residents were awaiting information on how long repairs would take and when power would be restored.
