Cholera Cases Reported in River Nile State Amid Fears of Wider Outbreak

Mashawir – Reports

The Sudanese Ministry of Health has announced its readiness to launch the second phase of the cholera vaccination campaign, following the ongoing phase currently being implemented in five localities in Khartoum State, after receiving new vaccine shipments.

The ministry also confirmed full preparations to begin a new campaign in North Kordofan State, starting mid-next week in Al-Rahad locality.

While the outbreak appears to be receding in Khartoum, 14 cholera cases have been detected in River Nile State in northern Sudan.

The state’s Ministry of Health stated that the situation requires the highest level of caution, confirming that rapid response teams have been deployed to implement a package of urgent preventive measures.

The ministry expressed concerns over a possible wider spread of the disease, especially with the onset of the rainy season and the increased risk of water contamination.
