Water Sources Shutdown Deepens the Suffering of El-Fasher Residents

Reports – Mashawir

The situation in El-Fasher has worsened following an almost complete shutdown of water sources after the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) seized control of the main station that supplies the city with water and electricity. This critical development has led to the collapse of vital supply systems, leaving residents to face extremely harsh living conditions amid a total absence of basic services.

According to local residents, the price of a barrel of water has soared to 30,000 Sudanese pounds (about nine U.S. dollars), as most neighborhoods suffer from an acute shortage of water. The crisis has worsened the plight of civilians who are already enduring hunger and continuous shelling.

Residents added that most private wells have recently stopped operating due to the intensification of military clashes, causing severe water scarcity and a sharp rise in prices. They noted that this sudden halt of alternative water sources came at a critical time, as people had been relying almost entirely on these wells since the main station went out of service.

Meanwhile, the El-Fasher Resistance Committees Coordination criticized the international community and the United Nations for failing to implement their proposals to deliver humanitarian aid by air to civilians.

The group stated that “the UN’s proposed airdrop plan has been delayed for too long, and waiting is no longer an option — people are dying of hunger right now.”

The statement urged immediate action to end the suffering of residents, declaring: “Stop the bleeding of El-Fasher and open an air bridge now.”
