UN: Hunger Threatens More Than 21 Million Sudanese

Mashawir – Reports

The United Nations has warned that the nearly three-year conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has pushed more than 21.2 million people across the country into severe hunger.

In a post on the X platform, the UN said famine has been confirmed in two areas, noting that in locations where fighting has eased, the World Food Programme has been able to scale up its assistance, helping to reduce hunger levels.

The warning comes weeks after RSF forces seized the city of El-Fasher, the largest city in the Darfur region, on October 26 following a siege that began in May 2024.

The fall of El-Fasher has sharply worsened the security situation, triggering the displacement of tens of thousands amid accusations of serious abuses committed by the controlling forces.
