Hamza Hassan, Media Officer for the Emergency Rooms in the Tawila area, said that “the suffering endured by displaced people is indescribable, with women and children making up about 70% of the total displaced population.”
In remarks to Al Jazeera Net, he added: “There are clear indicators of severe malnutrition cases, along with a critical shortage of nutritional supplements for affected children.”
Hassan explained that “limited funding provided by humanitarian organizations has significantly contributed to rising hunger levels and the worsening humanitarian crisis.”
The Tawila area, located about 68 kilometers west of El Fasher, has become a safe haven for more than 700,000 displaced people fleeing the horrors of war. Most of them came from El Fasher and from the Zamzam and Abu Shouk camps—many of whom had already been displaced previously before being forced to flee once again due to renewed conflict.
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), more than 127,000 people have been displaced from El Fasher alone since the Rapid Support Forces took control of the city.
