Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the U.S. President for African and Arab Affairs, announced the arrival of life-saving humanitarian aid to the city of El Fasher today Wednesday 14 January 2026, marking the first such delivery since the city was placed under siege 18 months ago.
The aid included more than 1.3 metric tons of food, water purification supplies, and essential healthcare packages.
This step follows months of negotiations facilitated by the United States to ensure humanitarian access, in coordination with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and various humanitarian partners.
Boulos emphasized that civilians in El Fasher have suffered through months of siege and aid deprivation. He stressed the necessity of continued, unhindered aid access not only to El Fasher, where conditions are critical, but across all of Sudan.
Furthermore, he called on the international community to increase support for the United Nations and its humanitarian partners. He reaffirmed that efforts will continue to enforce a national humanitarian truce and facilitate the delivery of aid to areas affected by famine, malnutrition, and displacement resulting from the conflict.
