The United Nations Protection Cluster revealed on Saturday reports indicating that women and girls have been subjected to rape and sexual assaults amid continuing threats facing civilians across the Greater Kordofan region.
In a report on the situation in Kordofan, with a focus on the city of El-Obeid, the group stated that women and girls face increasing risks of harassment and violence at checkpoints and during movement, with reports documenting cases of rape and sexual assault against women and girls.
The report also noted that men are at risk of arrest and targeting based on presumed affiliation with parties to the conflict while traveling, in addition to risks of looting, extortion, drone attacks, and other abuses.
It added that the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights documented 13 drone-related incidents in North Kordofan between January and April 2026 that resulted in civilian casualties.
According to the report, these attacks targeted civilian sites, including at least three markets and one school, leaving 94 civilians dead and another 100 injured.
