Mohammed Faisal, spokesperson for the Sudan Doctors Network, said that “the Kordofan region is experiencing a tragic reality under a suffocating siege and continuous shelling targeting civilians and health facilities alike.”
Faisal explained that “South Kordofan State is facing an official famine according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, and around 63,000 children are suffering from malnutrition.”
The spokesperson for the doctors’ network also confirmed that “the healthcare system is collapsing in the war-affected areas of Sudan.”
The escalation of fighting has also led to the closure of the Dilling road linking the city with El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, further worsening the living and humanitarian conditions for residents.
