Awareness-Raising Programs Target Displaced People in North Darfur

Mellit – Mashaweer

The displacement shelter in Mellit locality, North Darfur State, hosted a comprehensive awareness-raising program organized by the Sudanese Red Crescent Society in partnership with the Aman Development Association, targeting around 500 people from different segments of the community.

Sudanese Red Crescent volunteer Abubakr Al-Badawi told Mashaweer that the program included psychosocial support sessions and awareness-raising on the dangers of landmines, unexploded ordnance, and other remnants of war, in addition to awareness of protection issues, gender-based violence, and health education.

He added that “the program also included rehabilitation and empowerment activities, particularly for the most vulnerable groups, with the aim of strengthening their ability to cope with the humanitarian challenges imposed by displacement and war.”

Al-Badawi explained that 50 male and female volunteers participated in implementing the program, noting that its activities were carried out through the volunteers’ own efforts.
