UK Announces Funding to Support Survivors of Sexual Violence in Sudan

London – Mashawir

The British Foreign Office announced an allocation of £5 million to support survivors of sexual violence in Sudan.

It explained that the funding would be used to provide sexual and reproductive healthcare, maternal care, and psychosocial support, as well as to establish safe spaces for women and girls.

The UK also announced an additional £10 million to respond to the deteriorating humanitarian situation, amid growing famine risks caused by attacks on markets, healthcare facilities, displacement camps and infrastructure, as well as restrictions on humanitarian access and drought.

According to the British Foreign Office, the assistance will be used to improve access to clean water and sanitation services in displacement sites around Tawila in North Darfur, with the aim of reducing the spread of diseases.

The funding will also support healthcare, protection services and other essential humanitarian assistance in El Obeid, where conflict and restrictions on humanitarian access have exacerbated the needs of the civilian population.
