The Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces (Sumoud) condemned the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs appointed by the leadership of the Sudanese Armed Forces, which denied the existence of a risk of famine in the country and attacked calls for a humanitarian truce.
In a statement issued by its Executive Office on 27 October 2026, the alliance said the Foreign Ministry’s position reflected “a blatant disregard for the lives of millions of Sudanese.” It added that the position sought to prioritize the authorities’ political calculations and their efforts to retain power over citizens’ lives, while evading responsibility for the escalating humanitarian catastrophe. The alliance also asserted that elements of the former regime were influencing the authorities’ decisions.
The alliance added that “signs of hunger have spread to include the capital, Khartoum, and various states,” forcing citizens to stand in long queues to obtain free meals amid soaring food prices and the collapse in the value of the Sudanese pound. It questioned how the authorities could describe the food situation as “reassuring.”
Sumoud also criticized the characterization of famine warnings as “a pretext for imposing a ceasefire,” stressing that national sovereignty requires protecting people’s dignity and lives rather than depriving them of humanitarian assistance.
