Fire Engulfs Hundreds of Shelters for Displaced People in East Darfur

East Darfur – Mashawir

A massive fire destroyed large sections of shelters belonging to displaced people in the “Al-Nakhil” camp in the Khazan Jadid area, one of the largest displacement gatherings under Al-Shaeria locality in East Darfur State.

A local resident said that the fire, which broke out on Thursday evening, completely destroyed four sectors (blocks) of the camp and partially damaged two others, leaving displaced families without shelter.

He added that the camp has experienced four separate fire incidents in succession, further worsening the humanitarian conditions for displaced residents, who are now in urgent need of shelter assistance.

Al-Nakhil camp hosts around 15,000 displaced people who arrived in the Khazan Jadid area, most of them coming from the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, in addition to Zamzam camp.
