Sexual Violations Reported Among Displaced Women in North Darfur

North Darfur – Mashawir

Volunteers in community protection networks revealed that cases of rape and sexual violence continue to affect women and girls fleeing the horrors of war in El Fasher.

They confirmed documenting new cases of sexual violence against displaced women and girls who fled to the Tawila area in North Darfur.

The volunteers also disclosed that more than 15 confirmed rape cases were recorded in recent weeks at displacement sites in Tawila, according to medical reports, while warning that the actual number of cases is likely much higher, as many families avoid reporting such assaults because of social stigma and shame.

One human rights organization partnering with UNICEF documented 12 new rape cases in a recent report, some involving underage girls.

Psychological counselors have also complained that the level of assistance being provided does not match the scale of the violations or the urgent needs of survivors.
