Sudan’s State Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare and member of the National Mechanism for the Protection of Civilians, Salma Ishaq, complained on Tuesday that the international support provided to displaced people from Darfur and Kordofan at the new camp east of Dongola in northern Sudan remains limited and insufficient.
During her inspection visit to the displacement camp east of Dongola city, the minister stressed that Northern State is facing a heavy burden due to the continuous influx of displaced people into the region.
She stated that “the services provided to displaced people in the camp are inadequate despite the considerable efforts being made by both federal and state authorities.”
Previously, the Humanitarian Aid Commission in Northern State had appealed to international and national organizations to provide shelter, food, and healthcare services at the Dongola camp established to accommodate displaced people from the Darfur and Kordofan regions.
According to the Northern State government, Al-Afad Camp in Al-Dabbah has reached its maximum capacity after the number of displaced people from Darfur and Kordofan there rose to approximately 37,500 people, forcing authorities to open a new camp in Dongola locality.
