The Head of the Safe Corridors and Friendly Homes Organization, Mohammed Mohi El-Din, said that humanitarian assistance for people with disabilities in displacement areas is facing significant challenges, foremost among them funding gaps, inadequate training, limited participation of persons with disabilities in decision-making and the development of policies and plans, as well as a shortage of field personnel.
Speaking to Mashaweer, he explained that deteriorating security conditions and fuel shortages have hindered the delivery of humanitarian aid to beneficiaries, forcing the organization on some occasions to use animal-drawn carts (“karo” carts) to distribute relief supplies while taking necessary security precautions.
He noted that the shortage of essential supplies—particularly food and medicines—combined with limited public awareness of the needs of people with disabilities, has further complicated the humanitarian situation facing this vulnerable group.
Mohi El-Din called on donors to give greater priority to providing life-saving medicines and medications for chronic diseases for people with disabilities.
He stressed that humanitarian responses often focus primarily on food assistance, while critical health and medical needs continue to receive insufficient attention.
