The emergency committee of Abu Shouk camp, located north of El Fasher, announced that the average death toll in the camp due to hunger has reached four people per week.
It reported a complete lack of essential goods in the camp, particularly food, medicine, and water.
As a result, the price of a sack of millet has reached the equivalent of USD 1,000, and it is no longer available in the markets at all.
In a statement, the committee warned: “Slow death bares its teeth at defenseless civilians in the camp, where cases of severe malnutrition are widespread.”
Activists also noted that free kitchens providing meals to thousands of hungry people have ceased operations after all food stocks were depleted.
