WHO: Bloody attacks targeted 3 health centers in South Kordofan within one week

Port Sudan - Mashaweer

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported today (Sunday) that the Sudanese state of South Kordofan has been subjected to attacks targeting three health facilities over the past week, resulting in the deaths of more than 30 people.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated via the “X” platform that “the health system in Sudan is under attack once again.”

Tedros confirmed that the health system has faced numerous attacks in the Kordofan region of central Sudan, where fighting is currently concentrated.

“During this week alone, three health facilities were attacked in South Kordofan, in a region already suffering from acute malnutrition,” he said.

He reported that on February 3, eight people including five children and three women were killed and 11 others were injured in an attack on a primary healthcare center.

He further confirmed that on the following day, a hospital was attacked, resulting in the death of one person.

“The entire world must support the peace initiative in Sudan to end the violence, protect the people, and rebuild the health system,” he said, emphasizing that “the best medicine is peace.”
