Cholera and Decomposing Corpses Threaten Lives of El-Nuhud Residents
Follow-ups – Mashawir

The city of El-Nuhud, the largest urban center in West Kordofan State, is facing escalating health threats due to a significant increase in cholera cases amid serious challenges hindering response efforts, raising fears of a wider outbreak.
The situation is further complicated by the severe deterioration of environmental health in the city, declining water and sanitation services, malfunctioning sewage systems, and the presence of unburied corpses scattered in the streets of some areas.
The Dar Hamar Emergency Committee stated that the “Rapid Support Forces” (RSF) had shut down water sources in the city, leading to severe shortages and soaring prices of water in both the city and neighboring villages.
A post by the committee on Facebook revealed that the price of a barrel of drinking water has surged to over SDG 50,000 (approximately USD 18 on the parallel market), due to the closures.
The committee also reported the widespread presence of bodies and human remains in the city’s streets, as the RSF has allegedly prevented victims’ families from burying them.
