Shutdown of Charity Kitchens in El Fasher Deepens Residents’ Suffering
Follow-ups – Mashawir

Volunteers in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, announced the closure of the city’s last communal charity kitchens (tekaya), which had been providing meals to residents, due to a complete lack of food supplies. The final meal served consisted of umbaz, animal fodder.
Volunteers issued urgent appeals for support to restart the communal kitchens.
The city is experiencing dire living and health conditions due to a shortage of medicines, the destruction of healthcare facilities, and the depletion of food supplies in markets, a result of the siege that has lasted for nearly a year and a half. Humanitarian aid convoys have also been halted for several months.
Resistance committees in the city reported that hunger is ravaging the besieged population as most communal kitchens have shut down.
