The Salamat and Bani Halba tribes celebrated their recent reconciliation in Nyala, South Darfur State, on Friday, amid an atmosphere of joy and tolerance. The event was attended by representatives of native administrations, civil society organizations, and communities from across the state.
Participants emphasized the importance of community reconciliation in promoting peaceful coexistence, rejecting hate speech, and strengthening the values of solidarity and unity among different social groups. They stressed the need to build on the agreement to preserve stability and prevent renewed conflict.
Speaking to Mashaweer, community activist in South Darfur Al-Noor Hamid Idris said, “The reconciliation represents an important step toward restoring trust and strengthening relations among members of the community.”
He added that “maintaining peace requires cooperation among native administrations, young people, women, and civil society organizations, as well as efforts to address the root causes of conflict through dialogue and mutual understanding.”
The celebration featured traditional and musical performances by folk-art groups, along with performances by Hakamats, traditional women known for their cultural role in Darfur, who expressed their joy at the restoration of fraternal relations between the two tribes.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment to preserving social peace, working collectively to reject conflict, and promoting stability across South Darfur State.
