“Sumud” Alliance Welcomes Zurich Meeting and Calls for Supporting Efforts to Reach a Comprehensive Political Solution

News Report – Mashawir

The Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces (Sumud) welcomed the unannounced meeting held earlier this week in Zurich, Switzerland, between the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Army, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and Masad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the U.S. President for Arab, Middle Eastern, and African Affairs, to explore ways of achieving peace in Sudan.

The spokesperson for “Sumud,” Bakri Al-Jack, called on the parties allied with the army to support efforts to reach a comprehensive, negotiated political solution that begins with a ceasefire and addresses the humanitarian catastrophe across the country, starting with the cities of El Fasher, Kadugli, Dilling, and El Obeid, which are suffering under siege and a dire humanitarian crisis.

Despite the heavy official secrecy surrounding General al-Burhan’s trip to Switzerland, Sudanese media outlets and social media platforms have widely circulated and discussed news of the secret meeting with Masad Boulos, generating sharply divided reactions between supporters and skeptics.

Diplomatic sources indicated that the Zurich meeting came at the request of the United States and through Turkish-Qatari mediation. They described the meeting as “closer to indirect negotiations between the two sides,” similar to the initiative undertaken by UN Envoy Ramtane Lamamra in July 2024.

The sources suggested that Masad Boulos would also present the leadership of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) with the same document, which contains five points as a proposal for ending the war and achieving peace, representing the vision of the Quad group for a solution, and would request a preliminary response from both sides to the proposals.
