Egypt expressed its hope for the launch of a political process in Sudan without exclusion, reaffirming its respect for Sudanese sovereignty.

It also welcomed the engagement of U.S. President Donald Trump in the Sudanese crisis. This came during talks held in Cairo today (Thursday) between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty and the EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness, and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib.

According to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Tamim Khalaf, the discussions addressed developments in Sudan. Minister Abdel Aaty condemned the grave violations committed in the Al-Fashir area and outlined Egypt’s efforts within the Quad mechanism to stop the conflict and preserve the unity and integrity of the Sudanese state.

During the meeting with the EU Commissioner, Abdel Aaty stressed the importance of ensuring humanitarian access and respecting Sudan’s sovereignty.
He also highlighted the need to facilitate the delivery of aid and to cooperate with international institutions in this regard.

During the press conference, Abdel Aaty briefed the European Commissioner on the heavy burdens Egypt bears as a result of hosting more than 10 million refugees, half of whom are Sudanese. He emphasized the significant pressure this situation places on the Egyptian economy.
