Deteriorating Humanitarian and Health Conditions in Kadugli and Dilling

Updates - Mashawir

Kadugli and Dilling, the largest cities in South Kordofan State, are enduring tragic conditions due to the escalating intensity of battles between the warring parties, specifically continuous aerial bombardment. This is further compounded by a suffocating siege imposed on the two cities for nearly two years by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu.

According to Mohieddin Abdallah Younis, Vice President of the Humanitarian Emergency Response Room in Dilling, health and living conditions within the city are witnessing a terrifying decline as a result of constant shelling, displacement, and the collapse of basic services.

He noted that artillery and aerial strikes have forced large numbers of residents to flee the city toward other regions, both within the country and abroad, where they face dire humanitarian conditions in their places of displacement.

Younis explained that most health facilities in Dilling are out of service after being targeted by shelling or due to the departure of medical staff. This coincides with a severe shortage of medicines and essential supplies, prompting the Emergency Room to work with local initiatives to provide a minimum level of healthcare under the current circumstances.

He pointed out that “the prices of essential commodities such as flour, sugar, and oil have seen a significant spike, leaving many families unable to meet their daily needs or even flee the city due to a lack of financial means.”
