Sudanese Doctors’ Union: Widespread Outbreaks of Dengue and Chikungunya Decimating Residents of Khartoum and Gezira
Mashawir – Reports

The Preparatory Committee of the Sudanese Doctors’ Union has warned that widespread outbreaks of dengue fever, chikungunya, and malaria are devastating residents of Khartoum and Gezira states.
Committee member Adeeba Ibrahim noted that complications from these fevers have led to numerous deaths, particularly as patients crowd into the few hospitals still functioning, where life-saving medicines are in short supply.
In a press release, the committee revealed that Gezira State alone has recorded 688 dengue infections with 127 deaths, alongside 1,467 malaria cases and more than 230 deaths. It also confirmed the emergence of chikungunya cases occurring simultaneously with dengue in Khartoum, Bahri, and Omdurman, with infections rising sharply to about 456 cases and 101 deaths so far.
The committee appealed to the Ministry of Health and local authorities for immediate action, urging large-scale fumigation, drainage of stagnant water, removal of waste, and the provision of essential medicines in all currently operating hospitals.
