Humanitarian Interventions Support Displaced People in Northern Sudan

Dongola – Mashaweer

Volunteers implemented a multisectoral emergency response project at the Kilometer 70 camp, east of Dongola in Sudan’s Northern State, targeting displaced families with a package of humanitarian interventions aimed at meeting their basic needs and improving their living conditions inside the camp.

The interventions included the distribution of food baskets and support for the community kitchen, as well as dignity kits and shelter materials. Personal hygiene supplies were also provided as part of a response covering food, shelter, protection, health, and hygiene needs.

The organization “Save Sudan” implemented the project in response to the growing humanitarian needs of displaced families, stressing the importance of coordination with relevant stakeholders to ensure that assistance reaches beneficiaries according to their actual needs and to sustain interventions that strengthen the resilience of affected communities.

Speaking to Mashaweer, Northern State volunteer activist Majzoub Mohamed Khair said, “The project represents a model of an integrated response, as it brings together food, shelter, protection, and hygiene, which are essential needs for displaced families in the camp.”

For his part, Saleh Omar, one of the displaced people at the camp, told Mashaweer that “the assistance has helped ease some of the burdens facing displaced families, particularly amid growing needs and the difficulty of securing food, shelter materials, and hygiene supplies.”

He added that “continuing and expanding such interventions would help the most vulnerable families cope with the difficult living conditions.”

He called on organizations and supporting agencies to continue providing assistance to displaced people in the camp.
