Gezira State Launches Survey to Detect Malnutrition Cases and Provide Immediate Treatment
Monitoring – Mashawir

Health authorities in Gezira State, central Sudan, have initiated urgent arrangements to carry out a comprehensive field survey aimed at identifying cases of child malnutrition and providing immediate treatment, as part of efforts to rebuild the healthcare sector, which suffered severe collapse during the period of Rapid Support Forces (RSF) control over the state.
The Director of the Primary Healthcare Department in the state, Faisal Shatta, stated that the upcoming period will witness the launch of this survey across several localities to detect and treat malnutrition cases.
He also pledged to expand training programs for medical personnel specializing in this field.
These efforts come amid the extensive destruction of infrastructure and public services in the state.
Earlier, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reported that 3.2 million children in Sudan are at risk of acute malnutrition this year, including 770,000 children suffering from the most severe form, which makes them 11 times more likely to die from disease.
Children in Sudan remain the most affected group in the conflict that erupted on April 15, 2023, facing dangers including killing, sexual violence, abduction, and forced recruitment by armed groups.
