The Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces, Sumoud, welcomed a statement issued by the Alliance for the Prevention of Atrocities and Justice in Sudan, which includes the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Canada, the Netherlands, Sweden, Ireland, Denmark, Norway, and the European Union.
The statement reaffirmed continued international efforts, through joint mechanisms and in cooperation with local and international organisations, to monitor the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan, including unlawful detention, enforced disappearance, extrajudicial killings, genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and attacks against civilians during the war.
“We, in Sumoud, have consistently called for the protection of civilians. We therefore welcome this effort, which is consistent with our vision and principled positions,” the alliance said. “We encourage giving the issues facing civilians in Sudan the highest priority, and we have repeatedly called on the international community to keep the deepening humanitarian catastrophe in Sudan at the forefront of its attention, particularly as both parties to the war continue to commit atrocities against civilians, according to reports by the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Fact-Finding Mission.”
Sumoud Alliance urged the warring parties to recognise the dangers facing Sudanese people and called on them to immediately and unconditionally accept the proposed humanitarian truce, describing it as a pathway toward ending the war and addressing the underlying causes and conditions that have enabled these atrocities to occur.
